Douyin’s Li Liang, Vice President, Shares How AI Aids in Fighting Misinformation and Cultivating a Reliable Network Space

Recently, the China Central Television (CCTV) Social and Legal Channel released a video discussing the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in the creation of fake news. In response, Li Liang, Vice President of Douyin Group, shared his views. He pointed out that AI and algorithms are tools, and although AI has made it easier to create rumors, Douyin is also using AI technology to combat misinformation.
Li Liang mentioned that over the past few months, the Douyin team has tried to use large model capabilities to fight against rumors. They developed an intelligent agent for rumor management, which can quickly search authoritative information across the web, actively identify and handle rumors. However, he emphasized that technology is just a means, and the fundamental solution to combating rumors requires the joint efforts of media organizations, government platforms, and every user to provide fact-checking clues and authoritative evidence.
Li Liang stated that combating rumors is one of the most important tasks for Douyin in 2023. Douyin will continue to improve product functions and work with users to build a safe and trustworthy platform environment. To this end, Douyin launched the "Platform Regulations on AI-Generated Content and Industry Initiative" for the first time in 2023, encouraging creators to clearly label AI-generated content when posting.
Notably, on September 16, Douyin introduced the "AI Douyin Truth" feature. When users view content that may cause misunderstanding or search for information related to rumors, they can obtain complete information and fact-checking content through this feature. When watching videos, the platform will attach a "AI Douyin Truth" link to information that may cause misunderstanding, allowing users to click and view relevant detailed information and facts.
